Nolan’s Embraces Te Reo Māori with Successful In-House Lessons

“This is so much fun!” was the overwhelming response from staff participating in Nolan’s inaugural in-house te reo Māori lessons. The 10-week introductory course offered many their first experience with the language. While some found it daunting initially, nerves quickly gave way to smiles and excitement thanks to the engaging teaching style of kaiako (teacher) Jojo Rangihaeata.

Ernie White, Practice Manager, who has been on his own te reo Māori journey for several years, remarked on the enthusiasm of the participants. “It was very refreshing to see staff embracing te reo and realising that learning any language is about more than speaking; it’s about understanding a culture.”

Building on the success of this initiative, Nolan’s plans to continue encouraging staff to deepen their appreciation of te reo and te Ao Māori in 2025. The lessons represent an important step in fostering cultural understanding and strengthening connections within the workplace.
